Once a feast day for the consecration has been chosen, it is time to embark on a 33 day period of mental and spiritual preparation. Each of these days has a brief reading to provide a focal point for thoughtful reflection. Saint Louis has divided these days into sections, with each section consisting of it’s own set of prayers.
First 12 Days
The first section is a 12 day period that aims to lessen a person of their own selfish interests through personal examination and acts of renouncement and contrition. The prayers for this initial 12 day period are the Veni Creator, the Ave Maris Stella, the Magnificat, and the Glory Be. The focus of this 12 day period is: Spirit Of The World
Throughout this first week, and in a spirit of deep piety, we seek greater knowledge of ourselves, and offer sincere contrition for our sins. We should consider the great gulf that exists between the pure spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ and that of our own. The prayers for week 1 are the Litany of the Holy Ghost, the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Litany of Loreto) and the Ave Maris Stella. The focus of week 1 is: Knowledge Of Self
Throughout this second week, Saint Louis asks that we seek out a greater knowledge of Our lady. Mary is our spiritual Mother and Sovereign, and by studying Her virtues, character and actions a greater understanding of both Mary and the Mysteries of Christ can be developed. The prayers for this second week are the Litany of the Holy Ghost, the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Ave Maris Stella and Saint Louis De Montfort’s Prayer to Mary. The focus of this week is: Knowledge Of The Blessed Virgin
During this period we shall apply ourselves to the study of Jesus Christ. What is to be studied in Christ? First the Man-God, His grace and glory; then His rights to sovereign dominion over us; since, after having renounced Satan and the world, we have taken Jesus Christ for our Lord. What next shall be the object of our study? His exterior actions and also His interior life; namely, the virtues and acts of His Sacred Heart; His association with Mary in the mysteries of the Annunciation and Incarnation, during His infancy and hidden life, at the feast of Cana and on Calvary. The prayers for this third week are the Litany of the Holy Ghost, the Ave Maris Stella, the Litany of the Holy Name of Jesus, Saint Louis De Montfort’s Prayer to Mary and 0 Jesus Living in Mary. The focus of this week is: Knowledge Of Jesus Christ.
